What is a Gurukula System?
The Gurukula system in India dates back to around 500 BC. It is a residential schooling system that was most prevalent during the Vedic age. The students at the ISKCON learns a variety of subjects and were taught to live a simple and disciplined life. Under this system, the teacher and the students live nearby until their education is completed, creating a close-knit and sacred relationship between the guru (teacher) and shishya (student).
It’s important to note that at ISKCON, no student fees are charged. Instead, the students offer Gurudakshina as a token of respect and gratitude to their teacher.
