What is the Disappearance Day of Sri Srinivasa Acarya?

On Tuesday, 17 November 2026, devotees observe the Disappearance Day of Sri Srinivasa Acarya, a leading Vaishnava teacher in the generation that came after Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. It marks the day he left this world, though few details of his departure are recorded.

Significance

Srinivasa Acarya appeared in the village of Chakhandi, in the Burdwan district of Bengal. He arrived too late to meet Lord Caitanya or Srila Rupa and Sanatana Gosvami, but he became a disciple of Srila Gopala Bhatta Gosvami and Srila Jiva Gosvami, two of the great Gosvamis of Vrindavan. The Gaudiya tradition knows him as Mani Manjari in Krishna's pastimes.

He wrote a commentary on the four essential verses of the Srimad-Bhagavatam. His eight prayers to the six Gosvamis are known as the Goswami-ashtakam.

How to observe it

Devotees honour him by reading the glories of the six Gosvamis and chanting the holy names. Gopastami and the disappearance days of Sri Gadadhara Dasa Gosvami and Sri Dhananjaya Pandita fall on the same date.

This holy day falls in Kartik, the month of Lord Damodara, when devotees offer Him a lamp each evening and sing Damodarashtakam. Read about Kartik (Damodara) Month, and offer your own lamp from wherever you are through our Kartik Deep Daan Seva.
