What is Pasankusa Ekadashi?
The Ekadashi of the waxing moon in September or October is called Pasankusa Ekadashi, and some know it as Papankusa Ekadashi. In 2026 devotees fast on Thursday, 22 October, the day after Ramacandra Vijayotsava.
Significance
Lord Krishna speaks about this Ekadashi to Maharaja Yudhishthira in the Brahmavaivarta Purana. He says that it destroys all sins and that on this day one should worship Lord Padmanabha in a special way. One who observes it is said to be freed from the miseries of material existence. Srila Prabhupada gave this instruction:
Those interested in advancing in Kṛṣṇa consciousness must observe Ekādaśī-vrata regularly.
Srimad-Bhagavatam 9.4.29, purport
How to observe it
Srila Prabhupada asked only that devotees avoid grains and beans. Keep your other food simple, and spend the day chanting more of the holy names and hearing about Krishna. At Kurukshetra the fast is broken on Friday, 23 October, between 6:30 AM (sunrise) and 10:14 AM (one third of the daylight).
