What is the Disappearance Day of Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura?
On the disappearance day of Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura, devotees honour one of the great acaryas in the line that comes from Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. It is the day he left this world and entered the Lord's eternal pastimes, and in 2026 it falls on Friday, 30 October.
Significance
Though Narottama Dasa Thakura appeared as a prince, he remained a brahmacari all his life. He left his royal home for Vrindavana, took initiation from Srila Lokanatha Gosvami and studied Gaudiya philosophy under Srila Jiva Gosvami.
At Kheturi he arranged a great festival at which six Deities were installed. According to the Bhakti-ratnakara, Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu Himself appeared in the kirtana there.
Srila Prabhupada often sang Narottama's songs. In a purport to the Caitanya-caritamrta, he sums up what the Thakura taught about the Gosvamis:
He also confirms that one cannot understand the loving affairs of Rādhā and Kṛṣṇa without going through the direction of the six Gosvāmīs.

How to observe it
Sing one of his songs from Prarthana, or read its translation, and spend time in kirtana. Hear about the Kheturi festival, and pray for devotion like his to the spiritual master and the Vaishnavas.
This holy day falls in Kartik, the month of Lord Damodara, when devotees offer Him a lamp each evening and sing Damodarashtakam. Read about Kartik (Damodara) Month, and offer your own lamp from wherever you are through our Kartik Deep Daan Seva.
