What is the Disappearance Day of Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami?

The disappearance day of Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami is the day devotees remember how he left this world and entered the Lord's eternal pastimes. In 2026 it falls on Friday, 23 October. He wrote Sri Caitanya-caritamrta, the biography of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu that Srila Prabhupada translated and explained for the whole world.

Significance

Srila Krishnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami grew up in a family of physicians in Bengal. One night Lord Nityananda Prabhu appeared to him in a dream and told him to go to Vrindavana. There he lived a renounced life near Radha Kunda and took shelter of Srila Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami and the other Gosvamis, the great teachers who followed Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu.

Srila Prabhupada traced our disciplic succession (the unbroken line of teachers and students) through him, naming Srila Narottama Dasa Thakura as his direct disciple. Srila Raghunatha Dasa Gosvami and Srila Raghunatha Bhatta Gosvami also have their disappearance days on this date.

O my dear Kṛṣṇadāsa, do not be afraid. Go to Vṛndāvana, for there you will attain all things.

Caitanya-caritamrta, Adi-lila 5.195
