What is the disappearance day of Sri Kasisvara Pandita?
Sri Kasisvara Pandita left this world and entered the Lord's eternal pastimes on the fourteenth day of the waxing moon in the month of Kartika, as Gaudiya sources record. In 2026 that day is Monday, 23 November. He is also known as Kasisvara Brahmacari or Kasisvara Gosvami.
Significance
Kasisvara's home was at Catara, near present-day Serampore in Bengal. His spiritual master, Sri Isvara Puri, was also the spiritual master of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The Caitanya-caritamrta names Kasisvara together with his godbrother:
Brahmacārī Kāśīśvara was a disciple of Īśvara Purī, and Śrī Govinda was another of his dear disciples.
Caitanya-caritamrita, Adi 10.138, translation
In Krishna's pastimes in Vrindavana, Kasisvara is the servant Bhrngara, and Govinda is Bhangura.
When Isvara Puri was about to leave this world, he told his two disciples to go to Jagannatha Puri and serve Mahaprabhu. Govinda went first, and Kasisvara reached the Lord after travelling on pilgrimage. Because the order had come from their guru, Mahaprabhu accepted them both as His personal servants.
How to observe it
It is a good day to read how a disciple carries out the order of his spiritual master, as Kasisvara did. Devotees chant the holy names and hear about the servants of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. The disappearance day of Sri Bhugarbha Gosvami is observed on the same date.
This holy day falls in Kartik, the month of Lord Damodara, when devotees offer Him a lamp each evening and sing Damodarashtakam. Read about Kartik (Damodara) Month, and offer your own lamp from wherever you are through our Kartik Deep Daan Seva.
